A Montessori Program for Children Ages 2 1/2 - 6 Years

"Help me to do it myself!"

Headed by Ms. Jen, this program will give you a peek into a Montessori community and will provide you with ideas for implementing similar learning strategies at home.

Ms. Jen earned her Infant/Todlder Montessori certification from The North American Montessori Center and her Early Childhood Montessori certification from the Utah Montessori Teacher Education Program. She has over 10 years experience working as a lead teacher in Montessori communities within Salt Lake City, Utah.

Over the course of the 9 weeks the children will be guided in many activities, including transferring and sorting items, pouring liquids, scrubbing household items, learning self care/hygiene, preparing snacks, grace and courtesy and in general, taking care of themselves, their environment, and one another. Activities will build upon one another and will aid the child in developing his coordination in movement, his balance, and his gracefulness in his environment, as well as his need to develop the power of being silent.
Children will also work to analyze difficulties they may have in the exercises and to problem solve successfully without interference from an adult. It is important to note that there is no right or wrong way, but only the child's way!

The Practical Life area in the Montessori environment appeals to the young child's natural desire for independence and order. Because children are naturally interested in mastering daily living activities that they have witnessed, the activities, or "works" as they are referred to, are provided to satisfy a child's internal desire to do big things.
